Jan Jones has served as Johnson County’s Recorder of Deeds since 2005. During this time, she served nine years on the statewide Recorders Association of Missouri organization, including three years as board President. The Recorders Association of Missouri is tasked with the sole purpose of educating Recorders of Deeds on all aspects of recording law and procedures.
The Recorder’s office maintains and preserves some of our communities’ most important records, including documents of writing affecting real property, subdivision plats, federal and state tax liens, just to name a few. The office also issues marriage licenses.
Jones updated the recording software in 2007 in order to provide efficiency, accountability and the most current preservations practices available. These updates ensured that all recording and indexing are now backed up on and off site for protection. Additionally, all images are now microfilmed back to 1835 and yearly microfilming is completed for all new records. Digitizing of old records continues with a goal that all records dating back to 1835 will be searchable on the electronic system.
Jan is married to Lindel Jones. They have two sons: Bryan Jones, his wife Brittney and grandchildren Brody and Hailey (Warrensburg); and Eric, his wife Melissa and grandchildren Aidan, Finnegan and Clancy (Lee’s Summit).
Jan enjoys raising chickens for their fresh eggs, and sharing the extras with family and friends.
